New Life on a Homestead

I told you that Callie was expecting a calf, right?  When we went to Florida, we thought she would have it while we were gone, but as it turned out, she didn't. {and we were very glad she did not}
A week after returning from our Florida adventures, when Nathan and I were out checking Callie, we found her in Labor! It was a family affair to watch Callie- poor girl. We all watched as Callie gave birth to a beautiful little calf!   And since Callie's real name is Caledonia, we named her little bull, Scotland-Scottie for short :)
And so Scottie was born at 11:30 Saturday morning, on May 23rd 2015.  And I have pictures as well, like always =)

The story of Scottie's birth:
Nathan and I were in my herb garden, discussing the fact that Callie had not yet had her calf, when we decided to go down to her pasture and check on her. When we arrived, we found her in labor, quietly standing through contractions. We were quite excited, and sat down to watch her. After some time, we ran up to the house, for Dad was calling us. We told him what we were doing, and he went inside and spread the news that Callie was having her baby. The whole family came down to watch but only some of us were patient enough to wait an hour for Scottie to finally make his appearance in this world :)
Olivia and I are the milking team, milking twice and a day and feeding our little boy his bottles. We are really enjoying it and look forward to our chores everyday! It had been so long since we were doing outside chores, since we had sold our goats. We were ready for outside work again!
Below are some Pictures of Scottie's birth =)

He was sure hungry!

I know this is just as cow having a baby- but for us, it is something new. We have only dealt with goats. So It was something very exciting for us.  Baby animals are fun anyway ;)
Hope you enjoyed the pictures :)
I have more pictures of  the work we have been doing on the cow shed/barn, but I guess you will have to wait for those;)
Until next time,
Elise

December craziness:)

Well, folks, I don't know if anyone ever reads my blog, but if you do- I guess you have realized that I haven't blogged in a while:)  I don't have as much spare time as did at one time, but that doesn't mean I enjoy blogging any less. Life marches on and it seems the older you get, the faster it marches. {Do I have any Amens?} If you have an instagram account and follow me, you will probably know some of what has been keeping me busy, but for those of you who don't, I will give a little update:)  December was full of chicken processing, caroling, Christmas concerts for my sisters and I, prayer meeting, travels to DE and PA to visit family for Christmas, a Christmas party for the young people and adults at church, finishing my work with the contracting business, teaching piano as well as our annual Christmas service. We kicked off the New Year by having some friends over and making eight homemade pizzas, (yes, I was in charge of getting them all made, and I loved...

Passing unnoticed

Sometimes it seems like life moves very slowly, and other times it seems that it moves very quickly. It seems that the opposite of what I want, happens. If I wish for it to move slowly, it moves quickly, and if I wish it would move quickly, it moves slowly. Nevertheless, the past 5 months have come and gone like a flash. I can hardly believe January is almost over. I realize that there may be very few people who read my blog; perhaps a lot of that has to do with how infrequently I write. ;) But I was thinking about what I might blog about and looking through pictures... I guess it is really the little things that make up a beautiful life. It's the little things everyday that make fond memories. I tend to be so task oriented that I forget to stop and notice the dew drops on the flower, the frost patterns on the window, the unique sunrise... the smiles which are flashed at me every day. And then- suddenly these precious times are gone. It's a new stage of life, the things w...

He's Always On Time

Two months have come and gone and I'm working on the third. It's hard to believe my time here in Alabama is almost up...it's gone by faster than I thought it would.  God has taught me a lot during my stay here, but I've been so busy, I haven't had much time to sit down and write a blog post about it. While it would take too long to tell you about everything God has been teaching me, I'll share a recent lesson with you.  When others want to know what, where, when, how and why, it's not always easy to give an answer. I've been thinking a lot about what else God has for me to do. I was pretty anxious about it last week. It made for a restless few days and nights.  But later in the week, I was reading through some "old" journal entries, from earlier in my stay here in AL, and I had been praying for and encouraging some friends, to trust the Lord because we don't have to have the answers. If we had the answers we would not need to trust. As I wa...
