If Our Hearts Were Humble

As I was sitting on the porch steps this morning I was thinking about all of those who are voting today- in Virginia as well as some other states- I was thinking about what the outcome of the president election might be, and how our country is in quite a mess. And these words came to mind; they are from a hymn, that I am afraid not many know.

"If My people's hearts are humbled, if they pray and seek My face,
If they turn away from evil, I will not withhold My grace.
I will hear their prayers from heaven, I will pardon every sin.
If my people's hearts are humbled, I will surely heal their land. "

"Then My eyes will see their sorrow, then My ears will hear their plea.
If my people's hearts are humbled, I will set their nation free.
If My people's hearts are humbled, If they pray and seek My face,
If they turn away from evil, I will not withhold My grace."

And that song is taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves
and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Wow- isn't that something to think about? We are a proud, stubborn, and stiff-necked nation.
I see signs, bumper stickers and hear people say, "God bless America!"
But God can not bless America. We have turned aside from God, we have hardened our hearts to Him, and do evil in His sight continually.  God can not bless evil. What God says is right, we as a nation have rejected and call evil. What God has called evil, we as a nation have embraced and called good.
Who will stand up for what is right? Who is on the Lord's side??  Who is willing to following King Jesus, no matter what the cost? May God always find me as His faithful servant.
I must say, however, even if our nation has rejected God, our duty to vote against the evil leaders that arise, is very important. As I see it, to not vote is to aid the enemy. This is not just democrats against republican and the third party thrown in there, this is a spiritual battle. We must be engaged, and although we as Christians shouldn't get worked up about what is happening in politics, we do need to be informed. The decisions that are being made, not only will affect our children but they also affect our brothers and sisters around the world (and obviously here in the states.) How can we pray for them if we have no idea what is happening in the world? And I believe as responsible citizens and Christians, we need to step up and do what we can while we have the freedom to do so. Our forefathers fought hard for this freedom- we should not be so willing to sit back and let it be taken away. We are extremely blessed to have the freedoms we have today!
Wow- I didn't know I had that much I wanted to say, but hopefully, those thoughts provoked some thinking on your part:)
Don't forget to go out and vote today! And Remember- God is still on the throne and is in control!!
Until next time,
Elise

He's Always On Time

Two months have come and gone and I'm working on the third. It's hard to believe my time here in Alabama is almost up...it's gone by faster than I thought it would.  God has taught me a lot during my stay here, but I've been so busy, I haven't had much time to sit down and write a blog post about it. While it would take too long to tell you about everything God has been teaching me, I'll share a recent lesson with you.  When others want to know what, where, when, how and why, it's not always easy to give an answer. I've been thinking a lot about what else God has for me to do. I was pretty anxious about it last week. It made for a restless few days and nights.  But later in the week, I was reading through some "old" journal entries, from earlier in my stay here in AL, and I had been praying for and encouraging some friends, to trust the Lord because we don't have to have the answers. If we had the answers we would not need to trust. As I wa...

SURPRISE!

I was so excited to see some dear, dear friends of ours at my graduation party. They came down from Delaware to surprise Olivia and I, but sadly, I was not as surprised as Olivia was. I had seen a message  go through on the iPad to our friend that contained a link for the local hotel. And being the person I am, I put things together right away... They were probably coming for my party as a surprise. Bummer, I had ruined my surprise! I also took note of the fact that they never answered yes or no to the evite we sent out through email, and of the fact that when they sent me a card, it did not say, " wish we could be there with you", but "we will be thinking of you" or something of that sort. I was not 100% sure they were coming, but I was 90% sure😉 but thankfully I had forgotten about all this, since it had occurred about two weeks prior to the party. Note: I am known for accidentally ruining my own surprises. I don't mean to, I just hear something, or see somet...

December craziness:)

Well, folks, I don't know if anyone ever reads my blog, but if you do- I guess you have realized that I haven't blogged in a while:)  I don't have as much spare time as did at one time, but that doesn't mean I enjoy blogging any less. Life marches on and it seems the older you get, the faster it marches. {Do I have any Amens?} If you have an instagram account and follow me, you will probably know some of what has been keeping me busy, but for those of you who don't, I will give a little update:)  December was full of chicken processing, caroling, Christmas concerts for my sisters and I, prayer meeting, travels to DE and PA to visit family for Christmas, a Christmas party for the young people and adults at church, finishing my work with the contracting business, teaching piano as well as our annual Christmas service. We kicked off the New Year by having some friends over and making eight homemade pizzas, (yes, I was in charge of getting them all made, and I loved...
